What are essential oils?
Essential oils are not a trend. They have been around thousands of years, and are referenced in the Bible hundreds of times. The two most everyone has heard of are Frankincense and Myrrh, but what are essential oils?
Essential oils are the aromatic liquids of trees, plants, flowers, roots, bark, peels/rinds. These EOs, as we affectionately call them, regenerate, oxygenate, and and act as the immune system for the plant. They contain the plant’s healing nutrients to destroy infections, stave off infestations, initiate and maintain growth and repair structural damage. They are so much more than a scent! One drop of essential oil contains 40 million trillion molecules (not an exaggeration), which is enough to cover each cell in our body multiple times over! Essential oils are composed of microscopic molecules that are able to penetrate into the DNA at a cellular level of every cell in our body and can help to support balance in the body’s system. Because of the way they are distilled and extracted they can be used topically, aromatically or internally.
Essential oils have such amazing health benefits, therefore, it is VERY important to know that your essential oils are 100% therapeutic grade so you get the highest medicinal quality oil. In other words, you want to know that your oils really WORK and are free of the chemicals that you are trying to avoid! Young Living stands apart from every other brand of essential oil because of their Seed to Seal process. Check out more by clicking on Why Young Living.
FUN FACT: It takes 5,000 pounds of rose petals to make 1 kilo of rose oil, 75 lemons to make one 15ml bottle of lemon essential oil, 27 square feet of lavender plants to make one 15ml bottle of lavender essential oil, and 1 pound of raw peppermint to make one 15 ml of peppermint essential oil. Which means, one drop of pure essential oil, is VERY potent!!
How to use essential oils
There are three main ways to use Young Living essential Oils:
1. Aromatic – this can either be through a diffuser (every home NEEDS at least one diffuser) or by just straight up opening the bottle and smelling it. Our diffusers do not heat the oil, but use a micro-fine vapor into the air. Aromatic = breathe it in. A diffuser is a little gadget that you put water and essential oils in to make your house smell amazing without toxic chemicals and scary things like formaldehyde.
2. Topical – This is the equivalent of putting a drop of oil in your hand, mixing it with a carrier oil (fancy word for coconut oil or olive oil or any fatty substance oil in your pantry… if you can cook with it, you can use it to dilute essential oils) and putting it on your skin. Topical = on your skin. They are absorbed rapidly by the skin because of their molecular structure and they take mere seconds to hit the bloodstream when applied topically.
3. Internal – This is just what it sounds. Some oils can be ingested or used in cooking and when used properly are extremely powerful. Internal = in your mouth with a drink or in a capsule. Please consult the Vitality line for internal use.
